Antennas mounted to fascias and walls fulfill a similar role to roof masts where height for RF equipment can be achieved by use of an existing structure rather than constructing a dedicated telecommunications tower/facility. This option usually provides a huge economic saving and can go some way towards reducing the visual impact that RF installations have. If installing a directional or sector antenna it may not be necessary to install a tower to the roof of a building which could change the appearance of the complex; a wall mount can, to some extent, be easily disguised while still meeting operating requirements.
Wall mounts can vary in design to suit the antennas and or the supporting structure that they attach to. Some examples are J Poles which attach to fascias using screws and are popular for use on residential properties with lightweight antennas. Industrial applications that need to support large dishes etc are commonly constructed with strong circular hollow section with welded plate feet and fixed with bolts to steel columns or masonry walls with chemset anchors and are thus able to support a much heaver loads.
